I took a photo of myself going to the gym. It’s not that amazing. I’ve been going to the gym for the last ten years. I just didn’t go that often. Or that consistently. But I’m good at it. You see many years ago I was a “gym rat”. I went often and consistently. I was under the training tutelage of “Ralphie” who owned an old school gym next to Symphony Hall in Boston like the kind of gym Spenser went to (Robert B. Parker’s character).
Ralphie trained trophy winning Mr. Universes, Mr. New Englands and Mr. OMG! WTF! And he trained me. He trained me for several years. He did it with grace and fierceness. But at some point I lost the tiger strength to do another lat pulldown and retired into something more sedentary and soft.
But I know what I’m doing in the weight room and I effortlessly command the digital dials of any cardio machine I encounter.
And there I am going to the gym as I have done so many times before. The only thing I look forward to are listening to the songs I recently purchased on itunes when I do cardio.
Here is the shuffle list that was played. I do high/low interval workouts so the songs reflect that tempo. They also reflect my age:
Me and You Nightmares on Wax
Livin’ for the Weekend The O’Jays
Stranglehold UK Subs
Soul Survivor Rolling Stones
Stay Hungry Talking Heads
Santa Maria Gotan Project
Gotta Thing on My Mind Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings
I am not feeling that passionate about working out. I think I have changed so much. I think I may have to find another form of fitness to adapt to the very new me. Until I figure that out I will go to the gym and move my body in as many ways as I can. I just hope I find something that moves me. And therein lies the key… finding something that MOVES me.
