The week started with a bang and I mean a bang. On Saturday I whacked my toe and front of foot into a door frame to stop the dog from barking at a delivery guy who was at the door. I managed to save the delivery guy from being barked at to death but my left foot took the hit.
It was more black than black and blue but thankfully not broken. It did prevent me from going to something that I wanted to attend ALL YEAR. The RV Expo at the Boston Convention Center. Oh no! I really, really wanted to go. You see I have this thing for RVs. Especially 5th Wheels. I LOVE THEM! I totally want to renovate one and make it all glamor-gorgeous and park it outside Nashville for several months. I really do. But not happening this week for sure.
Managing to miss the RV Show was quickly balanced by going to see jazz at Wally’s Jazz Club in Boston the next day. My friends and I went there Monday night. It was great. It was really great. I had one of the worst martinis ever but it prevented me from wanting another one so it worked in favor of my diet.
The playing was really good and I miss going out like that. I used to be a cocktail waitress at the 1369 Jazz Club in Cambridge during 1980s where I got to hear Archie Schepp and Henry Threadgill play live. I love, love, love music and realize that it is a butterfly sticker for me whenever I take the time to listen to it.
On Thursday Michelle and I went to friends’ house for dinner. Then on Friday we met another friend for dinner at the Kowloon Chinese Restaurant on Route 1 in Saugus. I went out three times this week. Each time was a small monster sticker cheat but so rejuvenating that I accept it with glee.
Now you would think that after busting my toe that gym attendance would have suffered. But I went to the gym 3 times this week. 3 times. I didn’t do lunges but focused on upper body workout and nautilus for the legs. Instead of elliptical I road the bike at high intensity.
This is truly a diva dieting miracle. I don’t know what has gotten into me but I really enjoy being back at the gym and I’m at the point now where my body craves the workout.
I joined the gym mid-December of last year. It’s been about six weeks which brings me to my weigh-in this week and it was 187 pounds. I gained a pound while mostly dieting but lifting weights at gym. I would say I’ve been to the gym about 15 times since my first weigh-in at 186.
I have not been tracking with my normal monkey, monster, smiley and butterfly stickers. I have not been engaged in a very strict diet. I’m getting my toes wet (even if one of them is black and blue). I’m mostly trying to figure out why I would bother to go through a somewhat arduous phase of my life in order to lose the weight and I am coming up with darned good reasons. The best one so far is that I want to be able to get up off the floor when I fall from stubbing my toe. One needs upper body strength and a good strong core to gracefully lift oneself up from the floor.
Not dieting related but equally as interesting is my discovery of the app Snapchat. Of course a 15-year old showed it to me and it is amazing because this guy DJ Khaled does 10 of the most uninteresting Snapchat videos daily but somehow I can’t stop watching him. He is… well is he funny? Not sure but he is funny although I don’t think he is trying to be funny. He has more sneakers than the entire NBA and his keys to success advice is… well funny? Not sure.
I started my own Snapchat account and immediately took a photo of my dog Ramone with his eyes all devil looking. That’s it so far. If I continue to Snapchat more than once a month I will let you know.
